How to vent a portable air conditioner
How portable air conditioner venting works, and what you need at a window to set one up.
Why venting matters
A portable air conditioner works by moving heat out of the room. That heat has to go somewhere, which is why the exhaust hose must reach outside — normally through a window, a door, or a vented panel.
A unit running with the hose left in the room will not cool it. It will add heat.
Typical window setups
Sliding sash and casement windows are both workable with a window kit. Keep the hose as short and straight as you reasonably can, and seal the remaining gap so warm outside air isn't drawn back in.
