How many BTUs do I need for my room?
A practical guide to matching portable air conditioner BTU output to UK room sizes, glazing and heat sources.
BTU in plain terms
BTU per hour describes how much heat a unit can remove. A higher BTU rating means more cooling capacity, and generally a larger, heavier unit.
Room size is the starting point, but it isn't the only factor. Large south-facing windows, poor shading, a top-floor position, and heat-producing equipment such as computers or kitchen appliances all increase the load.
Typical use
ChillDash hire units are professional-grade models in the 12,000–14,000 BTU range, which suits bedrooms, living rooms, home offices, treatment rooms, salons and small commercial spaces.
For large open-plan areas, several smaller zones often cool better with more than one unit than with a single large one.
